Our Tauranga Disaster

Green hats on to come up with ideas.
How could this have happened?
What will happen to our beaches?
What will it mean to people?
What will it do to Tauranga?

Billy's thoughts!

At the start of the holidays a disastrous thing happened to some of the beaches in the Bay of Plenty. A ship called the Rena spilt oil everywhere. Workers are trying their best to pump the oil out of the ship before it breaks in half. Even sadder it is killing lots of sealife. On the beach volunteers are flooding in the door. Mount Maunganui beach is open but fishing and swimming are banned.

On Sunday George, dad and I walked around the Mount. We saw a New Zealand male grey fur seal. First he swam in the water, then he hopped on a rock and had a two hour sun bathe. The penguins and seals are in danger of dying in the oil.

I feel sad and mad about the Rena spilling oil everywhere because it is banning people's jobs and what people want to do and it is killing lots of animals.

Listen! What can you discover?

Acrostic poem.

WALT use brainstormed words to write an acrostic poem.
This is a poem Room 8 wrote together, then we tried our own. What special words can we think of?

Cheering
Running
Outside the school grounds
Sprinting
Surprised to see everyone
Cold on the way
Oxygen in our lungs
Up the hill
Nearly there
Trying really hard
Round the field
Yeah we made it!

This is what we have learned about tadpoles and frogs.

How do you make a banana into a penguin?
